Denver

Last weekend we had two very close matches on the road in Denver. Our first match was against Denver. They are a strong team and came out ready to play! We took the doubles point with Megan Price and Callie Craig winning 8-3 and Seniors Elle Carney and Liza Ezhova taking a tight doubles match 9-8. Going into singles we had Megan, Elle, Callie, and Desiree on first (as they only had 4 courts). Elle, Callie and Desiree all split and went into a third set. Megan had a tough match but lost taking the score to 1-1 overall. On Elle court she fought hard in the third but eventually fell to her opponent. Callie and Desiree battled it out for the win at 3 & 4. When Liza and Aubrey went on our overall score was 3-2. Liza went on first and played tough but lost in a second set tiebreak, 3-3 now. It all came down to Sophomore Aubrey Paul who had won the first set. She started to feel the pressure a little bit but dug deep to pull out a 7-5 win for the Cougars! I was very proud of the girls for fighting and pulling out this win...

Our second match was another close one. We played against Tulane and started off 0-1 losing the doubles point. Going into singles was a little tough as the momentum wasn't in our favor. Megan Price however proved that wrong starting off with a singles victory at our number one spot. Callie also came out with a straight set victory. Desiree took the first but ended up splitting and lost in a third set 6-7. Aubrey stepped up to the plate and took her match as well in straight sets. Again our overall score came down to 3-3 and Liza was the last one on the court. She had won the first but lost the second and was just starting a third set. She got down 1-3 but showed her Senior experience by coming back and pulling out a 6-4 win in the third!

This weekend was tough mentally as well as physically for all of us. Most everyone on our team had/has a bad cold/flu and had to fight through the sniffing, coughing, aching and everything else that comes when you are sick. We are looking forward to our next match on the road against Minnesota and North Carolina State this weekend!

  1. Even with the tissues up their noses, still good looking girls. Good luck for this weekend from the Aussies Down Under.
